Hello. On Pirate's behalf, I would like to say thank you for whoever is reading! We have some news to share.
I was unable to continue fostering Pirate, but luckily I got into contact with the wonderful people at Japan Cat Network, a group that dedicates their time to helping kitties in need! My liaison, David, was incredibly helpful in helping me get Pirate vaccinated, and allowing Pirate to stay at the shelter until he an find a home.
Please, if you are looking for an addition to your family, consider fostering or adopting Pirate.
He will be lonely without you!
My Pirate
A story of a brave cat, his warm heart, and maybe, his happy ending.

A month ago my life changed when I found a white cat drenched in blood by the side of the road. I was riding my bike as he watched me pass, rolled over onto his back as if in a silent question. It took me five seconds after I had passed him to work out what I had seen, to realize that if I would not answer, maybe nobody would.
My pirate, one-eyed and strong, had been hit by a car. His jaw had been cracked in half, and had suffered head trauma. His eye had been ravaged, but might not need removing. He ate through a tube in his stomach for the first two weeks. The vet had him go through three surgeries, one for his crushed jaw, the others for neutering and stitches for his eye. He had forgotten how to use his front legs because of the damage done, but in a month of rehabilitation, was literally back on his feet. Everyone rejoiced when his jaw began to heal and he was able to eat on his own. Pirate, who had miraculously kept both eyes (though one might be blind forever), had a wonderfully quick recovery, but couldn’t be on his own.
Pirate was shy at first, but within a day he would lay out beside me as I worked on my lesson plans, loved to get his ears scratched during movie nights, allows himself, graciously, to be picked-up and, though not interested in playing chase (yet), enjoyed quiet moments curling in his favorite hiding spot under my bed. Pirate is definitely the first mate for any Captain. He likes to follow me around the house and sniff around (his sniffing is more a snort thanks to his jaw work, but very cute). He nibbles on your fingers when you have something tasty on your hands, but doesn’t bite. He is also a smart fellow. He can wriggle open sliding doors to get to you (he would rather be with you than without). He hides when I’m taking a shower or am washing dishes because I splash – a very smart cat.
Pirate is staying with me now, but cannot stay forever. Against the contract I filed with my company and the apartment they are leasing for me, I am hiding him in my apartment, though I am not allowed to keep a pet. When I could not find a home among my friends, I thought a shelter might be okay...before I realized that they might put my sweet Pirate down. After all that he has been through, for such an affectionate and good-natured cat to be put to death seemed beyond horrific.
I wanted to tell Pirate’s story in hopes that someone out there is looking for a sweet cat who needs a wonderful home and someone who will love him like he deserves. He has not been vaccinated, but has been neutered. I’m afraid I don’t know how old he is. He has a healthy appetite, gently reminds you that it is lazy to use one hand when you could use two for petting, and though he's seen some hard times, all lovable.
Won't you help me find Pirate his happy ending?
